Tuneless RaGa
All music
lovers must be aware of what raga means. According to the Indian musical
tradition, it is the means to evoke emotions in the audience. Congress’ RaGa failed to do that. He sang but the
melody was tuneless. He couldn’t even touch Amethi’s soul, leave alone touching
India’s.
Relying only
on the aura of Nehru-Gandhi name will not help the party. Congress, once an invincible
political force, is now only a shadow of its former self. The party has good
leaders still but not effective leadership. Unless the issue of leadership gets
fixed, Congress is not going to go anywhere.
Narendra Modi
is a formidable opponent. Congress has to pit an equally formidable leader
against him. Someone who can match Modi’s oratory, shrewdness, forcefulness,
street-smartness and political machinations. Right or wrong, Modi has a vision.
He knows where he has to go and where he has to take India. Congress, on the
other hand, is visionless. Except, appeasing the minorities, it has nothing new
to offer.
For how long
can Congress bask on its past achievements? It has lost touch with the grass-root
levels, while BJP has connected well. And therein, lies the difference. Congress
leaders are still living in a dream world, they have lost power, but they
continue to believe that they are still in power. They blame Modi for being
authoritarian – but so was Indira Gandhi. She alienated many senior leaders
during her tenure, who left Congress, to form separate parties, which was later
to become BJP.
The nation is
grateful to Congress for all that it has done since its inception – the freedom
struggle, the Nehru-era and the liberalisation of the Indian economy. But it
cannot bring Congress back to power if it fails to change with the demands of
the time. And the first change that Congress has to usher in is to alter its RaGa. Otherwise in 2024 also, BJP will set
the tune.

Congress is singing the wrong melody as the taste of music for nation has changed. But it won't be wrong to say Indian politics is at its lowest .
ReplyDeleteGlobally, people are demanding a new political order. That explains the rise of Trump, Right-wing parties in Europe, Brexit, Durarte in Philippines and Modi in India. The aristocratic class and their elite media is horribly disconnected with the masses and their aspirations.
ReplyDeleteWell said, right or wrong ,But Modi has a vision and Congress is visionless.
