Daisy - My Love, My Darling
I always believed that love at first sight was a myth until I met Daisy. I instantly fell in love with her. It was a long, dark, lonely night, and to make matters worse, rain was falling in torrents. I was returning from a friend’s birthday party when I saw her standing alone at an empty bus stop. I slowed my car as I reached the bus stop – I was hooked the moment my eyes met hers. They were the bluest of blue, oceanic blue, to be precise. And they had in them a mysterious charm. So bowled over I was by her that I stopped my car, without bothering to park it properly, and got out, unconcerned, carefree, about the pelting rain.
Within moments, I was drenched. But I remained rooted to the
ground. In my mind a song played: Teri
aankhon ke siwa duniya mein rakha kya hai. A big fat raindrop splattered on
her pretty nose and she flinched. I felt like rushing towards her and hugging
her but I knew that if I did that, she might resent it. I didn’t want her to
get the impression that I was trying to take advantage of her on a deserted
street. After all, I am a gentleman, and gentlemen don’t behave in this way
with the ladies. And I am no Casanova also, so I was aware of my lack of
charisma too.
The rain continued to fall. I continued to get wetter. I was in pink
shirt and white trousers and in one of those vulnerable, romantic moments, I
got swept away, as my imagination ran riot. I thought I was Rajesh Khanna and the
song Prem Kahani mein ek ladka hota ha flashed
through my mind. I remember doing a few dance steps also. Then, I saw that she
was no longer looking at me. I panicked. I was on the verge of missing a golden
opportunity to express my love to her. If I didn’t take action now, she might
lose whatever interest I had managed to create in her.
I shut my eyes and called Allah, Buddha, Christ, and then realised
I was calling all the wrong gods. I should be seeking help from god of love,
Krishna. I chanted his name a few times and then confidently approached the
love of my life. Krishna responded to my call and I was able to convince her to
get in the car with me. Inside, I hugged her as tightly as I could, and caressed
her at the right spots. The sounds that emanated from her drove me crazy.
It’s been a year now and our love for each other has only grown.
And we like nothing more than me, sitting on an easy chair with a book in hand,
and Daisy at my feet purring delightfully. Her tail twitches as I run my hand
on her back.
