The Mind of the CEO
There is no
exact theory of management that CEOs can use to deal with their innumerable
problems. And the way things are transforming, the command-and-control method
of CEOs, is on the wane. Nowadays, so much data and information are available
at every level, the CEO’s decisions can be challenged anytime. As Jack Welch,
one of the most famous CEO’s commented: Leadership
of organisations is going to become much less CEO-driven.
So, the CEO’s
job is becoming more demanding day by day. This requires a shift in the way
CEO’s think. The mind of the CEO has to change. The first and the foremost
thing that they have to do is to find space to reflect. Amidst the chaos, that
is the sanest action. The time they spend on reflection will give them a clear
direction because they’ll be able to think more profoundly. This will enable
them to make good progress on their strategic goals.
Handling
technological advances is another challenge they have to face - deciding on
what to adapt and what not to and entrusting the right people to lead those
changes. The risk- taking ability has to be razor-sharp because the boundaries
of markets are growing, competition is as stiff as ever, and customer base and
the talent pool is in a state of flux.
Opportunities
are plenty but which is the right opportunity, that selection is critical. A
wrong move could backfire big time. When to say no to something that seems
lucrative, but isn’t, and when to say yes to something that seems useless, but
isn’t. To decide this for today’s CEO is one hell of a task. At the same time,
he has to nurture the organisation’s culture. Any variation there, in terms of
compromising with it, can spell doom for him.
Along with
all this, he should be prominently visible on the social media, to the right
audience, and in the right way. The role of CEO is getting complex and only
those who can balance the work stress and the demands of a rapidly changing
world can survive and make a mark.
The
legacy that the CEO leaves behind depends on how well he manages his mind.

What you are saying is correct but that is why they are paid more then any one in the organization.
