That’s Us, That’s Life

What we want, we don’t get. What we get, we don’t want. What we have, we don’t like. What we like, we don’t have. When nothing happens, we become restless. When we are restless, nothing happens. We hide when we should seek and we seek when we should hide.

When it’s cold, we desire warmth. When it’s hot, we long for coolness. When we are alone, we wish for company. When we have company, we want to be alone. When our hands are full, we want more time. When we have more time, we want our hands to be full.

We see greener grass on the other side of the fence. When we get to the other side, we think we were better off on our side. We dislike when people criticise us but we love criticising. When we are free, we want to be engaged but when we are engaged, we want to be free.

We dream when we should be working, but when we are not working, we nag. We fret and fume when we are not acknowledged but we regularly fail to acknowledge others. We expect support for our work but we don’t support others in their work.

We get angry when our request doesn’t get responded but we do not respond when we are requested. We think highly of ourselves but of others we have low opinion. We say we don’t discriminate but we get upset when a junior in office writes directly to us. We can’t manage our own egos and we say others are too egoistic.

When we sell a stock, it goes up. When we buy a stock, it goes down. We laugh at others but we dislike getting laughed at. We take credit for others’ work but if others do that we blow up. We fool others but if others fool us, we hate it. We call people names but if people call us names, it is not acceptable.

We are innovators when we fail, others are dumb when they fail. When our decisions go awry, we are experimenting, but when others’ decisions go haywire, they are incapable. When something awful happens to us, it’s our bad luck, but when it happens to others, they deserve it.

We are right, others are wrong. We are good, others are bad. We are smart, others are dumb. We know everything, others know nothing. When we win, it’s because of us, when we lose, it’s because of others. We are models of perfection; others are examples of imperfection.

That’s us.

That’s life.
