Know Yourself Better

You think you know yourself but the truth is that you don’t. That’s the reason why majority of us are unable to realise our potential. That’s why there is only one Newton and one Einstein and only one Shakespeare and one Ghalib and only one Gandhi and one Mandela and so on and so forth. We all have it in us - believe me - to rise and shine but most of us, if not all, prefer to stay in the background.

The comfort zone is the problem. We become so used to it that to do anything out of the way is anathema to us. So, we will not take any risks, we will not try anything new, we will avoid volunteering for extra responsibilities, we will stick to a pattern, and in this way life glides away. One fine morning we realise that we have missed the boat or the bus or the train or whatever you care to call it.

The time to know yourself is now. Right now. Assess yourself; your capabilities, your abilities, your strengths. You are using only a fraction of them; yes, only a fraction of them. Why? Because you have closed the door of possibilities. You have convinced yourself that you are good only for what you are doing. But you are good for much more. Much, much more. That’s why I am saying know yourself better.

You have a painter in yourself or a writer, or a singer, or a CEO, or an entrepreneur, or someone else, wanting to come out but you are allowing yourself to be held back. Break through that resistance. Step out from the familiar into the unfamiliar. Your destiny lies not in the cosy confines of your comfort zone but in the unknown, unexplored territories. Begin exploring. Venture into the world of possibilities. The whole world is yours, can be yours – do not settle only for a tiny space in some office or live your whole life under the shadow of someone at home.

Don’t hesitate. Take that leap of faith. By taking that leap, you won't know what you can achieve but by not taking that leap you know surely that you cannot achieve much. Knowing yourself is not enough. Know yourself better.
