Make-up

A woman without make-up is like the night sky without stars. Or a garden without the flowers. Make-up enhances a woman’s self-confidence. She feels fresh and bright. Her overall image gets a boost.

The use of lipstick has many signals. Allan and Barbara Pease in their book Body Language describe three such signals:

Women wearing red lipstick and using larger lip displays are seen as more interested in themselves and men’s attention

Women with reduced lip displays and muted or pastel colours are seen as more career-oriented and business-like

Women with no lipstick are seen as more serious about work than men but lacking personal skills

Lipstick combined with glasses can work wonders in a workplace. While larger lip displays can work magic on dates and with husbands.

Adam J Scheiner, an authority on cosmetic surgery, says because women naturally have more colour variation around their eyes, eye makeup enhances that and makes them look more attractive. But women should exercise caution while doing the eye make-up because if improperly done, it can have a reverse effect. Instead of looking attractive, their attraction can get subdued, if mascara, eye shadow and eye liner do not blend or are used excessively.

Blush adds a rosy tint to the cheeks and that rosy tint makes the woman look younger, thus adding to her charm.

But there’s an interesting twist to how women with make-up gets perceived by women without make-up. Women are more jealous of women wearing makeup and consider them as more promiscuous. This is a story in every household. When the man (read husband) points out at women who are heavily made-up to his wife, who most of the time is without make-up (unless she is attending some function), she immediately says that they are shameless and immoral.

Depending upon what impression women want to make, they have to decide their make-up. Many women make the cardinal mistake of overdoing it and that destroys the effect. But if handled well, make-up makes women more likeable, charming, and mysterious.
