Create New Thinking Boxes
Thinking out of the box is a thing of the past. The rapid pace at which change is happening, the out of box thinking will take business nowhere. If business has to remain competitive then it has to change the way it thinks. The authors de Brabandere and Iny - innovation experts at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) - in their book Thinking in New Boxes have provided newer ways to light the idea bulb.
Creative thinking is the key that unlocks ideas. If this key is
not used then organisations will keep doing the same thing the way they have
been doing. They will be stuck in a rut. So, there won’t be any wow experiences
for their customers. And if business is unable to provide delightful
experiences to their customers, then they risk losing them.
If retention becomes an issue for business then how they’ll
attract new customers? By thinking creatively, business can consistently
reinvent itself, thus not only retaining their existing clients but attracting
the new ones. Business should never be out of customer’s awareness.
The BCG innovation experts have created a roadmap for thinking
differently. Below are the 5 essential steps they have mentioned in their book:
Doubt everything
Probe the possible
Diverge
Converge
Re-evaluate
The whole idea is to challenge what you are doing. Every policy,
every process, every product should be re-examined with a sceptical bent of
mind. Find flaws in them, look for
loopholes, tear them apart. Then explore options. No idea is useless. They may
not be implementable for a specific reason. So, don’t discard any ideas. Once
all the ideas are listed, pick the breakthrough ones from amongst them. And as de Brabandere and Iny remind us in
their book, no idea is good forever. Therefore, re-evaluation is a must.
The time is ripe for a fundamental shift. To stay alive in this
cut-throat environment, start creating new thinking boxes.

ReplyDeleteMy comment is on the Blog “ Create New Boxes” written so beautifully by my son Nasir zaidi. His blog is inspired by the book Thinking in New Boxes by de Brabandere and Iny - innovation experts at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). I have not read the book so my comment is based on what Nasir has deduced from the book and expressed in the blog
ReplyDeleteAsserting that Thinking out of the box is a thing of the past is a very misconceived notion. If this concept was not alive all the innovations and developments that have taken place in the world would not have been possible— Think of Thomas Edisson. Discarding this would be killing the creative and innovative thinking .To my mind what is suggested is putting the old wine in the new bottle
Outside the box means a new thought. It means dispensing with constraints. Move away from the stereotypes. Purpose is to come up with new ideas. Ideas that lead to innovative pivots and launches. It is a challenge thrown up to come up with ideas. It is to look further and to try not thinking of the obvious things, but to try thinking of the things beyond them.
It is a thinking that moves away in diverging ( Diverge)directions. Diverging is

Outside the Box thinking does not assert that all ideas are good forever if it
were so ;it wont encourage thinking differently’
It goads us to think differently, unconventionally . It refers to novel or creative thinking. Origin is from "Nine dots" puzzle, whose solution requires some lateral thinking. .
Thinking outside the box concept goes through all the steps as indicated in the Blog

It is just putting the old wine into the new bottle
Enjoyed reading it. Disrupt or be disrupted.
